Tom’s Experience hiking to Angora Lakes:
Angora Lakes has been called a cliff jumpers paradise and is a wonderful place to spend a day swimming and relaxing along the beach. The Angora Lakes hike is about a mile and is easy to follow the trail.
There are numerous cliffs to jump from with sizes ranging from a few feet up to 60 feet in Upper Angora Lake as well as boat, kayak and paddle board rentals if you feel like just relaxing at the lake.
The beach is pretty nice but it can get very crowded so be sure to get there early.
Cliff jumping is very dangerous, be sure you know what you are doing, there have been a couple of deaths at this lake.
Dogs are allowed but must be on leash.
The trail has a gentle climb up past Lower Angora Lake to a bunch of cabins and a small store.
Trail Info: To get to the trailhead from South Lake Tahoe, take Lake Tahoe Blvd. Through the “Y” intersection and follow to Tahoe Mountain Road. There are plenty of signs along Tahoe Mountain Road until the final left turn onto a dirt road. If you see a sign pointing you towards Fallen Leaf Lake you have gone too far. There is a small fee to park at the trailhead.
