Tom’s Experience hiking to Tamarack Lake:
Tamarack Lake is a short hike to a beautiful mountain lake just above the more popular Echo Lakes.
The trail starts at the Echo Lake Trailhead and goes around Echo Lakes. Both Echo Lakes are very pretty with summer cabins surrounding the lower lake and beautiful islands in the upper lake.
You can take a water shuttle if you would like from the trailhead which drops you off at Upper Echo Lake making your hiking distance much shorter.
Once you reach the other side of Echo Lakes the trail starts to climb. There will be a sign pointing you off of the main trail towards the lake.
Total distance is 3.65 miles with a 500 ft elevation gain. Dogs are allowed on this trail.
Trail Info: To get to the Echo Lakes Trailhead from South Lake, head southwest on the 50. Turn right onto a very small paved road called the Lincoln Highway that starts heading up the mountain. There are a few signs on the paved road. Follow that road until you turn right on Echo Lakes Road. Follow Echo Lakes Road until you reach a parking lot. If you drive into Echo Lake you have gone too far.
